The Blizzard
I made it through Valentine's day, but I felt like my spirit was two seconds behind my body...outside myself. Still feeling light and wispy.
I tried every healthy natural thing I could think of – I added more healthy veggies and whole grains, oats, less meat and fats. Drank water like a fish. I even tried a few acidophilus tablets to aid digestion (called “colon restore”). But the more I ate, the more I felt like I was starving – like nothing was being digested, just very painfully passed through this narrow spot on my right side. I got very weak, often dizzy, light headed. I forced food down, but did not want to eat anymore.
I began to feel my entire digestive system “pulse”, like if I had the stomach flu or food poisoning. Then Sunday the 16th, after a forced-down dinner of sausage and peppers, I got really nauseous and went to lie down early. The pain was too horrible, and when I went to get anti-nausea medicine, I began to see black stars...I collapsed.
I only remember some fuzzy moments of EMTs taling to me, and the cold snow on my body - a snow storm was coming down. I had 4 hypoglycemic seizures (3 major) almost in a row. I could not speak well, and frankly, the doctor was disgusted when he saw the Atkins products my husband brought in. He treated me like a baby, refused to hear my husband, and he just wanted to go home.
I stumbled out of the bed as soon as my muscles would coordinate...I needed help and was alone.
"What's the matter with you? Where are you going?"
"Sick... sick..."
They gave me an IV of Pepsid, drew blood, and gave me a suppository much later after I vomited. They thought I was well enough to go home from there. I thought they were insane, but I figured I would be treated better at home.
My husband walked two miles in the dark blizzard, wrapped in a blanket to get a car, because even the cops couldn't travel to me. I will never forget the sacrifice he made for me that night.
When I got home, I took a moment to look at the deadly beauty of the storm, as the flakes piled around the colorful holiday lights. I know it will be the last time I go out for awhile.
I had a fever and diarrhea when I returned from the hospital, and I am still not over it....

Up's N' Downs...
I had a stuffed garlic, mustard and saurkraut pork chop today that left me feeling REALLY nauseated and headachy (maybe not cooked well?). Going to bed shortly.
The chop was bad, but I don't think it is the main problem. I don't know what's the matter with me lately - I've upped the carbs to 60 (which is really hard to stuff in with all low carb foods!) and excericising regualrly, eating a wide range of healthy foods...I feel a little better with carbs, but mostly... I feel like my spirit is lagging behind my body. People are talking to me and I just hear noise. I'm eating but never hungry - all I feel is burn inside. I often feel achy, headachy and green. I am drinking water like a fish but always dehydrated. I'm not trying to lose weight anymore, but it won't stop -down to 117 lbs. I just want it to get better. I'm reading Atkins for Life in the hopes I can fix this.
I HAVE to feel better for Valentine's day!
